Compare the Ferro Concepts FCPC V5 and Slickster plate carriers. We break down mission fit, modularity, and tradeoffs to help you choose the right carrier for your loadout.

Quick answer

If you need a scalable, load-bearing platform for sustained missions or heavy kit, go with the FCPC V5. If you prioritize low weight, minimal bulk, and fast movement for short-duration operations, the Slickster is the better fit. Both use the ADAPT front flap system, but their core designs serve different roles.

Core design philosophy

The FCPC V5 is built as a full-featured plate carrier with integrated structural support, intended for users who carry heavier loads—think side plates, radios, and extended ammunition. Its shoulder straps and cummerbund are designed for load distribution over longer periods. The Slickster, by contrast, is a minimalist carrier that strips away unnecessary material to keep you fast and low-profile. It uses a single-piece mesh back panel and a slim cummerbund, which reduces weight but limits how much gear you can comfortably attach directly to the carrier.

Modularity and the ADAPT system

Both carriers accept the full range of ADAPT front flaps, including the Kangaroo Front Flap (product_id: 357849). This flap lets you use magazine inserts like the Ferro Concepts MP2 Magazine Pouch Insert (product_id: 357640) while still attaching MOLLE pouches to the front. The difference is how much you can hang. The FCPC V5’s stiffer platform handles heavier front flap loads without sagging. The Slickster is more flexible, which can cause the front flap to tilt under heavy weight. If you plan to run a fully loaded front flap plus side pouches, the FCPC V5 is the more stable choice.

Carrier-mounted accessories

Accessory mounting matters when you add a knife or a holster adapter. The Knifenook™ (product_id: 357677) can be sandwiched into the webbing on either carrier, but the Slickster’s tighter cummerbund limits placement options. The Modular Holster Adapter (product_id: 357673) works best on the FCPC V5 because its lower MOLLE rows and stiffer structure provide a solid base for a drop-leg or belt-mounted holster adapter. On the Slickster, you may need to use a separate belt or adapter plate to keep the holster stable.

Tradeoffs at a glance

  • Weight vs. load capacity: The Slickster saves significant weight by using a minimalist mesh back and slim cummerbund. The FCPC V5 adds structural elements that increase weight but allow you to carry more gear without discomfort. If you carry only a front flap and a radio, the Slickster is lighter. If you add side plates, a full assault pack, or heavy comms, the FCPC V5 distributes the load better.
  • Front flap stability: Both carriers accept the Kangaroo Front Flap, but the FCPC V5’s stiffer platform keeps the flap from tilting when loaded with four or more magazines and pouches. The Slickster’s flexibility can cause the flap to sag or shift under heavy weight. For light to moderate loads, the Slickster works fine. For heavy front flap loads, choose the FCPC V5.
  • Accessory mounting options: The FCPC V5 offers more rows of MOLLE on the cummerbund and front, making it easier to mount items like the Knifenook™ or Modular Holster Adapter. The Slickster has limited real estate and a tighter cummerbund, which may require creative placement or a separate belt. If you plan to mount a knife, holster adapter, or extra pouches directly on the carrier, the FCPC V5 gives you more flexibility.

Key product details

  • Kangaroo Front Flap: The Kangaroo Front Flap was designed to use our magazine inserts (KTS/Turnovers) while allowing MOLLE compatible pouches to be attached to the front. All ADAPT front flaps are designed to work directly with The Slickster, Chesty Rig, FCPC and a wide range of carriers on the market. This means you can swap the same front flap between the Slickster and FCPC V5, but the carrier's stiffness will affect how the flap carries weight.
  • Ferro Concepts MP2 Magazine Pouch Insert: The MP2 was designed around life support equipment; equipment that we need to get to fast, when time is life. The MP2 inserts allow 30 round 5.56, 5.45, 7.62 and .308 rifle magazines to be run in open top nylon pockets. Using these inserts inside the Kangaroo Front Flap gives you reliable, fast access to rifle magazines on either carrier. The FCPC V5 will keep the loaded insert more stable during movement.

Which carrier fits your mission?

Best for

  • Users who need to carry heavy loads (side plates, extended ammo, radios) for extended periods
  • Operators who want a scalable platform that accepts a wide range of ADAPT front flaps and MOLLE accessories

Not for

  • Those who prioritize absolute minimum weight and profile for fast, short-duration missions
  • Users who only carry a light front flap and no additional pouches or side plates
